March 13, 2010 - Kane Is Able Participates in Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade

About 30,000 people braved the cold, windy and showery streets of downtown Scranton to celebrate at the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade on Saturday, March 13th. The weather proved to be less than accommodating for one of the area’s biggest festivities.

The weather kept the numbers lower than usual, but it didn’t seem to dampen the overall Irish spirit of the day.

The crowd lining the parade route, which begins every year at St. Peter’s Cathedral and winds its way through the downtown ending at the county courthouse, was not its customary 4-5 deep. Although the spectator portion was on the lighter side, area establishments were busy.

Bagpipers, Irish step dancers, high school bands, floats, along with KANE’s 1930 replica truck were in attendance this year. The KANE truck is a reproduction of the first truck operated by Kane Freight Lines in 1930. KANE’s top-notch fleet maintenance crew ensures that the truck is in prime working condition and decorated for the parade.

Kane is a proud sponsor of the annual parade which is held every year since 1962 on the Saturday before St. Patrick’s Day.

Once again this year, our Chief Customer Strategy Officer, Chris Kane drove the truck with several friends and family marching close by. “This is special day for Scranton and we’re always honored to take part in the parade,” Chris stated. “As we celebrate our 80th year in business this year, it means a great deal to our family and associates to represent the company in the day’s events.”

According to the website Wikipedia, the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Scranton is the fourth largest in the United States in attendance and second largest in per capita attendance.
