March 17, 2009 - Kane Celebrates with Scranton in the Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade
 | Scranton, PA - Over 100,000 people lined the streets of downtown Scranton and celebrated at the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade on Saturday, March 14th.
A sunny, 50 degree day proved the perfect setting for this year’s festivities. “Parade Day” is one of the biggest events of the year and this year was no exception. |
It’s estimated that 11,000 people participated in this year’s parade. Bagpipers, Irish step dancers, high school bands, floats, and Kane’s 1930 replica truck were in attendance. Kane’s exceptional fleet maintenance staff ensured that the antique truck was fully operational for the parade.
Kane is a proud sponsor of the annual parade and has been for years. This year marked the first time that the ‘original’ Kane truck drove the route piloted by our own, Chris Kane. In 2005, as Kane celebrated its 75th anniversary, Rodney Aton (retired Director of Fleet Maintenance) and his crew rebuilt and restored the first truck used by E.J. Kane in 1930.

In year’s past, Kane either runs one of its tractor-trailers decked out in Irish flags and streamers or, more recently, has one of its tractors pulling a low-boy trailer with the 1930 truck riding on top.
According to the website Wikipedia, the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Scranton is the fourth largest in the United States in attendance and second largest in per capita attendance. It is held in Scranton every year on the Saturday before St. Patrick's Day.
