May 11, 2009 - Kane Supports Annual USPS Food Drive
SCRANTON, PA – Kane Is Able participated in this year’s annual United States Postal Service (USPS) “Stamp Out Hunger” campaign. The country’s largest food drive is conducted on the second Saturday in May every year. Since the program started 17 years ago, nearly 1 billion pounds of non-perishable food has been collected nationwide.

Kane placed one of their trailers at the Clarks Summit, PA Post Office for collection of the food on May 9
th. After the food was loaded into the trailer, a Kane driver delivered the shipment to St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Archbald, PA. The Bread Basket pantry based at the church in Archbald serves as the central distribution point for local area food banks.
Volunteers from St. Thomas Aquinas parish helped unload the trailer. Msgr. Joseph Bambera, pastor of St. Thomas, asked his congregation for volunteers during the previous weekend services
One of the many volunteers on-site assisting in the project expressed his reaction to the generous spirit displayed. “It’s especially encouraging during these tough economic times to see the support for the needy in our communities. People helping other people…that’s what it’s all about.”
It’s estimated that 30,000 pounds of food was collected during this year’s food drive.
